Frequently asked Questions
When does the Fall soccer season start?
o The Fall soccer season games begin the first weekend after Labor day
When are practices and when do they start?
o Team practices generally start the second full week of August.
o Practice days and times are coordinated by each individual coach.
Does my child need soccer cleats?
o NO. Soccer cleats are recommended but they are not mandatory, players may wear sneakers or a good running shoe. Only soccer cleats are allowed, other sport cleats are not allowed for safety reasons. The referee will not allow your child to play with dangerous footwear.
Does my child need to wear shin guards?
o YES. Shin guards are a mandatory item and must be worn and completely covered by socks, this is a safety issue, the referee will not allow your child to play without shinguards.
When are games played?
o Games are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays. Depending on the number teams there may be some games scheduled on weekday evenings the first couple weeks of play.
Can I substitute baseball or football cleats for soccer cleats?
o NO. Only soccer cleats are allowed, other sport cleats are not allowed for safety reasons. The referee will not allow your child to play with dangerous footwear.
Can my child also participate in football or cheerleading?
o YES. MSYSL does not require players to be exclusive to soccer, however, due to the large number of players and teams in our league we cannot reschedule games to accommodate players with other team commitments.
How old does my child need to be to play for MSYSL?
o All players need to be at least 4 years old by September 1 of the playing year.
Do I need to buy a uniform?
o NO. The league provides a team shirt for every player. You will need to provide shorts, socks, shoes and shin guards.
Can my child wear jewelry?
o NO. All earrings, bracelets, necklaces etc. need to be removed while playing.
Do I need to participate in the fundraiser?
o NO. You can pay the buyout charge at registration, however we encourage you to participate. The proceeds from the fundraiser provides the majority of the money necessary for facility maintenance and improvements and to keep registration fees reasonable.
